Special Savings

Give your goal its own account

Saving for something specific? A Special Savings account lets you set money aside and give it a name, so it's easy to track progress without mixing it in with everyday spending. There's no minimum balance and no monthly fee, so you can open as many as you need, whether that's a down payment, home improvements, or a rainy day fund, all running side by side.

A Certificate that locks in a guaranteed rate

If you have a lump sum ready to set aside, a Certificate locks in a guaranteed rate for a set term, from 3 months up to 60. The longer the term, the more you can earn, with no market risk to your principal. Don't have a lump sum yet? An Add-on Certificate lets you start small and keep contributing over time without resetting your term or losing your rate.

Frequently asked questions

Both offer tiered rates that grow with your balance and are federally insured up to $250,000. Investment Share starts earning at a lower balance, making it a good fit if you're carrying a bit more than a standard savings account. Money Market requires a higher balance to start earning dividends but adds withdrawal flexibility, including checks, and pays more at higher balance tiers.

Age. Smart Start Savings is for kids 12 and under and rewards saving habits with a $1 bonus for every $20 deposited. Gateway Savings is for teens 13-18 and rewards good grades with a bonus each semester. Both build savings habits early, just at different stages.
